FAQs
(Frequently asked questions)
How does individual therapy work?
Individual therapy involves a collaborative and confidential process between a client and a licensed therapist. Through open dialogue, the therapist creates a safe space for the client to explore thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, they identify challenges, set goals, and develop coping strategies. Over time, therapy fosters self-awareness, enhances coping skills, and facilitates personal growth. The therapeutic alliance, built on trust and empathy, empowers individuals to navigate life’s challenges and achieve lasting positive changes in their mental health and overall well-being. It is important to note that therapy typically begins on a weekly basis with 55-minute appointments, which tapers off to biweekly, monthly, or as needed once goals are met.
How does parent training work?
Parent training is a collaborative and educational process designed to empower parents with effective tools and strategies for managing their child’s behavior and promoting positive development. Through sessions with your therapist, parents will learn evidence-based techniques to address specific challenges, such as communication issues, discipline, and setting consistent boundaries. The therapist provides guidance, support, and tailored interventions, encouraging parents to apply learned skills in their daily interactions with their child. Parent training therapy aims to enhance parenting skills, strengthen the parent-child relationship, and create a more harmonious and supportive family environment.
What should I expect on the first therapy appointment?
During the initial/intake therapy appointment, you can anticipate a warm and confidential environment where the therapist will aim to understand their concerns and goals. The session will likely involve a discussion about your history, current challenges, and expectations for therapy. Together, you and your therapist will collaboratively outline a plan for future sessions and establish a foundation for a trusting therapeutic relationship.

How do I know if my therapist is a good fit?
Glad you asked! Determining if your therapist is a good fit involves assessing the level of comfort, trust, and understanding in your therapeutic relationship. A positive connection is characterized by feeling heard, validated, and respected during sessions. Open communication, shared goals, and a sense of mutual respect are key indicators that you have found a psychologist who aligns with your therapeutic journey.
What information/forms are needed to get started?
You will receive an email with a link to all necessary intake paperwork in the client portal. This will need to be completed before your first appointment. This usually takes around 5-15 minutes to complete. Other than that, we will need a copy of your insurance card if we are filing it for you and a state-issued ID. The admin team will let you know if anything else is needed based on your situation (custody paperwork, release of information, consent forms, etc.)
What insurances do you take?
We are in network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield Illinois, Cigna, United Healthcare, Oscar Health, Oxford and Oscar Health.
Do you prescribe medications or require that clients take medication?
We do not prescribe medications. However, we are happy to help you determine whether a conversation with a medical professional about medication is a good option for you. You certainly do not have to be on medication to address concerns that you have about your mental health. Like many other interventions, medication can be a helpful tool on your road to well-being. This is an individualized choice and depends greatly on circumstances and symptoms.
